Jacob Derrick

With 18 years of experience in fire safety in the built environment, Jacob is a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, a Chartered Building Engineer, a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and a Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers and Society of Fire Protection Engineers.

From his previous background in electrical and electronic systems integration, Jacob is experienced in building engineering systems concepts and technical design, delivery and project management, including CDM. Jacob has a wealth of experience across a broad spectrum of industry sectors in fire consultancy and fire engineering, working on developing fire strategies, fire engineering reports, technical fire safety support, construction fire safety inspection, fire risk assessments, fire risk appraisals of external walls, and electro-technical systems consultancy. 

Jacob is deeply committed to voluntary work within the fire industry. He is currently the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) International Leader and an active member of the IFE Governance Review Project Board for Membership. As a STEM Ambassador, Jacob works with young people to inspire the next generation of engineers. Jacob is also currently engaged in research on human behaviour in fire evacuations, which is focused on neurodiversity aiming to improve Sociotechnical Fire Engineering Design for inclusive environments.
