PROJECT INTRODUCTION:
Fire strategies are developed and implemented throughout all phases of a building’s lifecycle.
Whether a new project in planning or scheme design, or an existing occupied building for over 50 years, the fire strategy should be the defining deliverable that informs the fire safety and risk management planning throughout the building’s life.
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Our client, a major housing association operating across the UK, were in full agreement.
So they commissioned us to determine the proportionate approaches to take when developing a fire strategy through design, construction phasing and in occupation.
We used a range of existing projects and buildings to develop examples of a fire strategy at each of these phases, including how they should be iteratively informed as the design activity transitions into construction phasing and then into completion and occupation.
This provided many benefits to the Client, including what to specify during procurement and how to ensure what was being procured was to an agreed standard, and demonstrated regulatory compliance to the relevant authorities.
Our work on fire strategies will go on to inform future industry standards, including British Standards, as we seek to cascade this learning across the industry to ensure that all fire safety deliverables and risk management plans are informed by a suitable and sufficient fire strategy.
